Monferrato and surroundings
Although major historical events have left their mark on Monferrato, from the Saracens (and their treasure hidden in Ottiglio) to the handing over of Monferrato to the Savoy royal family in 1708, the former Marquisate of Monferrato is still a tourist destination largely undiscovered. Time seems to have stood still in the sleepy, historic villages perched on the lovely hills of the Monferrato. Away from the tourist strongholds of the Langhe, the Monferrato - one of the most famous Italian wine-growing regions in the world and home of the white truffle - invites connoisseurs to explore this diverse, natural region.

The pilgrimage site in the nearby natural park "Sacro Monte di Crea", lies in a wonderful panoramic position and is under UNESCO patronage. Another nature reserve was recently opened near Casale on the river bed of the Po be discovered by car.
